Melissa Gilbert is an American actress, producer, and director. She was born on May 8, 1964, in Los Angeles, California, USA. She is best known for her role as Laura Ingalls Wilder on the television series "Little House on the Prairie" from 1974 to 1983. Gilbert started her acting career at a young age, debuting in the 1972 film "The Reluctant Astronaut." She has also appeared in numerous other films and television shows, including "The Miracle Worker," "Sweet Justice," and "Nip/Tuck." In addition, Gilbert has produced and directed several television movies and series. In 2014, she ran for Congress in Michigan's eighth congressional district, but ultimately dropped out of the race. Gilbert has been married three times, most recently to actor Timothy Busfield in 2013.
